The
Flying Wing is a replica of the Northrop N9M. Four of these were built
to serve as flying test beds for the experimental YB-35 and YB-49 Flying
Wing Bombers completed right after WW II. The sleek N9M first flew in
December 1942. Much of the test data from N9M, YB-35 and YB-49 was used
to design the modern futuristic B-2 Stealth Bomber. The Wing was designed as a precision balanced flying model. It has a wingspan of 23 inches but, with no body or tail, it weighs only 35 grams. The high lift one piece wing makes it much lighter than a conventional airplane. It
out flies any other styrofoam The Flying Wing is made in the U.S.A. and constructed of a heavier two pound density break resistant styrofoam. If it does get broken, it can be easily be repaired with all purpose white glue. It can also be painted with a water-based poster paint without affecting flight performance. Wayne
Fether, former Mattel Toy maker, designed the Flying Wing glider. Much
time was spent developing this expertly constructed glider. The result
is hours of flying fun and a greater appreciation of the flying wing
concept of Jack Northrop. Today, Wayne's son Ken and grandson Jason
continue the Simi Air tradition selling the remarkable Flying Wings. We are proud to have had our Flying Wing gliders sold at some of the largest air museums in the United States. Some of the places our Flying Wing glider has be sold include the Smithsonian National Air Museum, Henry Ford Museum, The Planes of Fame Museum, Hiller Aviation Museum, Kansas Cosmosphere, Mid America Air Museum and a number of hobby and gift shops around the country.
